SEO Conferences 2026–2027: verified dates, real prices, and which ones actually earn you links
Every other roundup gives you a list. This one gives you what the ticket really costs once flights and hotels are in, whether you can get a refund, whether sessions are recorded, when the call for speakers closes — and a Link & PR Opportunity Score for all 61 events, because that is our actual job.
If you can only attend one SEO conference between now and the end of 2027, go to BrightonSEO in Brighton, UK (April 2027, from £360 + VAT). It has more speakers than any search event on earth — 190+ across roughly 15 parallel tracks — draws 4,000+ attendees from 70+ countries, runs a free public ticket ballot, and gives every speaker an indexed bio page on a high-authority domain.
If you need something sooner: brightonSEO San Diego, 15–16 September 2026 is the largest US search event and bundles a full PPC conference into the same ticket. If you have no budget at all, Google’s Search Central Live Deep Dive Europe in Barcelona (30 Sept–2 Oct 2026) is free and taught by Google’s own Search team.

What SEO conferences are left in 2026?
September–December 2026 · 28 events · all prices verified against official sites on 8 August 2026
There are 28 search and search-adjacent conferences left in 2026, running from 2 September to 9 December. The five that matter most are brightonSEO San Diego (15–16 Sept), Google’s Search Central Live Deep Dive Europe in Barcelona (30 Sept–2 Oct, free), brightonSEO Brighton (8–9 Oct), Ahrefs Evolve San Diego (12–13 Oct) and Chiang Mai SEO (9–13 Nov).
- Barcelona is a first. Google has never run a Search Central Live Deep Dive in Europe before. Three sequential days taught by Google’s own Search team including Gary Illyes and Cherry Prommawin, with hands-on Search Console and Trends labs. It costs nothing. Applications closed 5 September. (Google Search Central)
- brightonSEO now runs on two continents. San Diego moved to the San Diego Convention Center for 2026 and is the largest US search conference by floor space. Brighton in October still draws 4,000+ people from 70+ countries with 190+ speakers. (brightonSEO)
- October is the pile-up month. Nine events between 1 and 22 October, including three in the same week. If your budget is one trip, October forces a real choice.
- The cheapest serious event on the list costs $9. SEOcamp Remota (Brazil, 17–18 Sept) is R$49 for 80+ hours across multiple tracks, and free if you refer five people. (SEOcamp)

Which SEO conferences are actually worth attending in 2027?
19 confirmed dates · 14 expected · the rest unannounced
Nineteen search conferences have confirmed 2027 dates as of August 2026. The three biggest structural changes: SMX Advanced runs two US editions in a single year for the first time (San Diego in March, Boston in September), OMR Festival expands to three days (3–5 May, Hamburg), and Ahrefs Evolve returns to Singapore on 14–15 April.
Book early for BrightonSEO April 2027, WTSFest London (19 March, Barbican) and SMX Munich (5–7 April) — all three have published or historically enforced early-bird cutoffs that save 25–40%.
Why we’re publishing 2027 dates in August 2026. Every competing roundup currently has a placeholder. Search Engine Journal’s 2027 section is literally titled “Dates TBC.” Stay Digital Marketers gives quarters, not dates. If you’re setting next year’s training budget in Q4, nobody is actually serving you — so here is every date we could verify against an organiser’s own site, with a status badge on each so you know what’s firm and what’s a pattern-based estimate.

If I can only go to one, which should it be?
Picked by who you are, not by what’s biggest
There is no single best SEO conference — there is a best one for your job. A solo consultant paying out of pocket and an enterprise SEO lead with a $5,000 training budget should not be in the same room. Below is one recommendation per persona, with the reason.
Where I’m biased. I run a link building agency. That means I over-index on conferences with strong speaker-bio linking, active live-blogging cultures and open calls for speakers — because those produce links, which is what I get paid to care about. If your goal is pure tactical learning and you don’t care about visibility, weight my Link & PR scores lower and weight the “best for” column higher. Tim Soulo does the same disclosure on his roundup and he’s right to.
What does an SEO conference really cost?
Ticket price is roughly 40% of what you’ll actually spend
Budget 2.4× the ticket price for a domestic trip and 3.5–4× for an intercontinental one. Across the 61 events we track, the median ticket is $680 — but the median total cost of attending a two-day conference in another country, including flights, three hotel nights, food and transfers, is closer to $2,400.
The cheapest way to attend a major conference in person is a regional event you can drive to. The cheapest way to attend a major conference at all is a livestream ticket, which typically costs 20–30% of the in-person price.
- brightonSEO Brighton from New York. Ticket £360 (~$483) + flights ~$700 + 3 nights Brighton ~$450 + food/transfers ~$230 = ~$1,863. Ticket is 26% of total.
- Ahrefs Evolve San Diego from London. Ticket $1,199 + flights ~$780 + 3 nights ~$690 + food/transfers ~$280 = ~$2,949. Ticket is 41% of total.
- SearchNorwichXL from anywhere in the UK. Ticket £125 + train ~£70 + food ~£30 = ~£225 (~$302). No hotel needed. This is the single best value-per-pound event on the calendar.
- SEO-Day livestream from anywhere. €149 vs €349 in person, and you save the entire travel line. Roughly 12% of the cost of attending in Cologne from the UK.
- Chiang Mai SEO from London. Ticket $897 + flights ~$850 + 6 nights ~$420 + food/transfers/side events ~$400 = ~$2,567 — and Thailand is cheap enough that the week costs less than three nights in San Diego.
Cost of attendance, by departure city
Ticket + return flights + hotel (mid-range, one night per conference day plus one) + food and local transport. Figures are indicative August 2026 pricing and will move — but the ratios hold.
| Conference | Ticket | From London | From New York | From Singapore | Ticket as % of total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| brightonSEO Brighton | ~$483 | ~$700 | ~$1,863 | ~$2,340 | 26–69% |
| brightonSEO San Diego | $950 | ~$2,690 | ~$1,940 | ~$3,180 | 30–49% |
| Ahrefs Evolve San Diego | $1,199 | ~$2,949 | ~$2,190 | ~$3,430 | 35–55% |
| MozCon London | ~$697 | ~$880 | ~$2,050 | ~$2,520 | 28–79% |
| Chiang Mai SEO | $897 | ~$2,567 | ~$3,100 | ~$1,540 | 29–58% |
| SMX Munich | ~$1,275 | ~$2,180 | ~$3,120 | ~$3,690 | 35–58% |
| SEOkomm Salzburg | ~$916 | ~$1,780 | ~$2,760 | ~$3,300 | 28–51% |
| Sydney SEO Conference | ~$216 | ~$2,180 | ~$2,340 | ~$1,180 | 9–18% |
| SearchNorwichXL | ~$168 | ~$302 | ~$1,480 | ~$1,960 | 11–56% |
| Any livestream ticket | $65–$299 | Same everywhere — this is the point | 100% | ||
The rule nobody says out loud: if the conference is more than one flight away and you’re paying yourself, the livestream plus the money you saved on a freelancer or a link campaign will almost always outperform the trip. The exception is when the room is the product — Chiang Mai, SEOktoberfest, Masters of Search, SEO Rockstars. Those four you go to for who’s there, not what’s on stage.
Which SEO conferences actually earn you backlinks and press coverage?
Our Link & PR Opportunity Score — the thing no other roundup will tell you
The conferences that produce the most links are the ones with large speaker rosters on high-authority domains, an active live-blogging culture, and an open call for speakers. By that measure the top five are brightonSEO (9/10), Chiang Mai SEO (9/10), Google Search Central Live (9/10), WTSFest (8/10) and MozCon (8/10).
A speaking slot at brightonSEO gets you an indexed bio page on a domain with 190+ other speaker pages linking through it, plus recap coverage from a dozen agency blogs within a week. That is worth more than the ticket.
How we score it
Six inputs, weighted equally, scored 1–10. We publish the method so you can argue with it.
1. Domain authority
How strong is the event’s own domain? A bio page on a DR 70 site is a different asset to one on a DR 20 site.
2. Speaker bio link
Do speakers get a dofollow link to their site, or just a name and a headshot? Surprising how many give nothing.
3. Sponsor listing
Are sponsor links indexed and followed, or nofollowed and buried in a JS carousel?
4. Recap culture
How many independent blogs publish live-blogs or roundups? BrightonSEO generates dozens. Some events generate none.
5. Open CFP
Can an outsider actually get on stage, or is the lineup invite-only? An open call is a link you can earn on merit.
6. Media presence
Do trade press and newsletters cover it? Search Engine Land covering your talk is a different tier of outcome.
| Conference | Score | Speaker bio link | Open CFP | Recap volume | Why |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| brightonSEO | 9 | Yes, indexed | Yes | Very high | 190+ speaker pages, huge live-blogging culture, genuinely open call |
| Chiang Mai SEO | 9 | Yes | Partial | Very high | 100+ side events generate independent coverage all week |
| Search Central Live | 9 | N/A | No | Very high | Everything Google says at these gets written up by the entire industry |
| WTSFest | 8 | Yes | Yes | High | Actively platforms first-time speakers — the most winnable stage in search |
| MozCon | 8 | Yes | Curated | High | Moz’s domain is one of the strongest in the industry |
| Ahrefs Evolve | 8 | Yes | Curated | High | Ahrefs amplifies speakers to a very large owned audience |
| Spotlight by Semrush | 8 | Yes | Curated | High | 80+ speakers and Semrush’s distribution behind every one |
| SEOktoberfest | 8 | Yes | Invite only | Medium | Tiny, but being one of 55 people in that room is itself the PR |
| Tech SEO Connect | 8 | Yes | Yes | Medium-high | Narrow, credible audience — a talk here carries real technical weight |
| SEO Rockstars | 8 | Yes | Invite only | Medium | 100 seats, no-pitch rule, heavy word-of-mouth in affiliate circles |
| Link Building Mastery | 8 | Yes | Partial | Medium | The only single-topic link building stage that exists |
| State of Search | 7 | Yes | Yes | Medium | Non-profit, community-run, receptive to new speakers |
| SMX Advanced | 7 | Yes | Yes | Medium-high | Search Engine Land’s editorial machine covers its own event well |
| UNBOUND | 7 | Yes | Curated | High | Enormous reach, but search people are a minority of the audience |
| SEO for Paws | 7 | Yes | Yes | Medium | Free, charitable, and the community reciprocates coverage generously |
| NESS | 7 | Yes | Yes | Medium | Publishers in the room means journalists in the room |
| Web Summit | 6 | Yes | Curated | Very high | Massive press presence, but you’re one of thousands of speakers |
| DigiMarCon (any) | 4 | Yes | Yes | Low | Easy to get on stage, but syndicated across 30 editions so it carries little weight |
How to turn one ticket into several links
- Apply to speak, not just attend. An accepted talk gets you a bio page, a session page, and usually a slide-deck link. WTSFest and brightonSEO both actively favour first-time speakers.
- Live-blog it properly. Publish session recaps the same day with speakers named and tagged. Speakers reliably share write-ups of their own talks, and other roundups cite the fastest recap.
- Bring original data. A talk with a dataset in it gets cited long after the event. A talk with opinions in it does not.
- Check whether sponsor links are followed before you sponsor. Several events nofollow them or render them in JavaScript. Ask first.
- Pitch trade press before you go, not after. Search Engine Land, Search Engine Roundtable and the big newsletters plan coverage in advance.
Or skip the flights entirely
Conferences are a slow way to earn links. We’ve been doing it the fast way since 2020 — 100% manual outreach, editorial placements on DR40+ sites, no PBNs, no automation. 1,200+ links delivered, 95% client retention.
See how we build links Talk to usHow do I land a speaking slot? (CFP deadlines)
Speaking is the cheapest link on this page — most conferences give speakers a free ticket and an indexed bio page, and several actively prefer first-time speakers. brightonSEO, WTSFest, State of Search, Tech SEO Connect and SEO for Paws all run genuinely open calls where an unknown with a good idea gets picked over a known name with a rehash.
- A specific claim, not a topic. “How we cut crawl waste 60% on a 4M-URL site” beats “Technical SEO in 2027”.
- Data you own. Every organiser we’ve spoken to says the same thing: original data is the single strongest filter.
- No pitch. SEO Rockstars enforces a hard no-pitch rule. Masters of Search rejects agency applicants who look like they’re prospecting. Assume every good event screens for this.
- Apply early. Calls typically open 5–7 months before the event and close 3–4 months out. For BrightonSEO April 2027, that means the call opens around November 2026.
- Apply to the small ones first. SearchNorwichXL, SERP Conf., Search AfriCon and MeasureCamp are far easier stages, and a recorded talk from any of them is the credential that gets you onto a bigger one.
MeasureCamp is a special case worth knowing about. It’s an unconference — the entire schedule is written on a whiteboard on the morning of the event by whoever turns up. You cannot be rejected. If you have never spoken before and want to start, this is the lowest-risk stage in the industry, and it’s free. London’s next one is 26 September 2026.
SEO conferences in the US and Canada
The US calendar is dominated by three tiers: brightonSEO San Diego and UNBOUND at the top for scale, SMX Advanced and Ahrefs Evolve in the middle for depth, and a long tail of regional Digital Summit and DigiMarCon stops you can drive to. Canada has exactly one significant search-only event — SEO IRL in Toronto, 6–7 October 2026.
The one that changed most
INBOUND is now UNBOUND. HubSpot rebranded for 2026 — 16–18 September, Boston Convention & Exhibition Center, $1,599 GA. Celebrity mainstage keynotes plus hands-on HubSpot training. VIP is already sold out. Most roundups still call it INBOUND.
The best-kept secret
brightonSEO San Diego has a genuinely free single-day ticket. The paid tiers run $950–$2,160, but you can walk in for one day at zero cost. Nobody puts this in a headline. 15–16 September 2026, San Diego Convention Center.
The 2027 structural change
SMX Advanced runs twice in 2027 — San Diego in March and Boston in September. First time in the event’s history. Search Engine Land is positioning them as annual-planning bookends. Only the months are officially confirmed so far.
The one for technical SEOs only
Tech SEO Connect, 5–6 November 2026, Bay 7 in Durham NC, $1,074. “Made for technical SEOs, by technical SEOs” — it explicitly refuses beginner content, which no other US event does. Capacity-limited by the venue.
Also worth knowing
- WTSFest Philadelphia (1 Oct 2026, $499 → $599 from 1 Sept) is the only US search conference where attendance itself is restricted to women and people of marginalised genders. Scholarship tickets are available by application, and group rates run to 20% off.
- State of Search + LocalU (19–20 Oct, Grapevine TX) is non-profit-run and pairs a full search day with a full local SEO day. Combo ticket is $500 with code SOSLU. It’s hybrid and everything is recorded.
- SEO Rockstars (2–4 Oct, New Orleans) caps at 100 seats, enforces a strict no-pitch rule, and requires speakers to present live-tested ranking experiments rather than theory. It claims a 93% year-on-year return rate.
- Affiliate Summit West and East are free for affiliates and media buyers. Most people assume they cost $400–$1,900 — that’s the brand and vendor pricing.
- Digital Summit runs a regional roadshow at roughly a third of national-conference pricing ($495–$1,195), so you never have to fly. Tampa 2027 is confirmed for 23–24 March.
Events other roundups still list that aren’t happening:
• TechSEO Boost — no 2026 or 2027 edition. Tech SEO Connect has taken its niche.
• Advanced Search Summit — domain now redirects to digitalmarketers.org; last event 2023.
• SearchLove US — brand acquired by brightonSEO’s parent; content absorbed into brightonSEO San Diego.
• Traffic & Conversion Summit — no 2026 or 2027 edition found; appears dormant.
• MnSearch Summit — last verifiable edition June 2024.
SEO conferences in the UK and Europe
Europe has the densest search conference calendar in the world and the widest price range — from free (MeasureCamp, Search Central Live Barcelona) to €8,500 (SEOktoberfest). The UK anchor is brightonSEO, twice a year in Brighton, 4,000+ attendees and 190+ speakers. Germany runs the deepest secondary circuit: SMX Munich, SEO-Day Cologne, CAMPIXX Berlin, SEOkomm Salzburg and Masters of Search Berlin.
Free, and taught by Google
Search Central Live Deep Dive Europe, Barcelona, 30 September–2 October 2026. Google’s first-ever European Deep Dive — three sequential days with Google’s own Search team including Gary Illyes, plus hands-on Search Console and Trends labs. Free, application-based, capacity tightly constrained.
Best value in the UK
SearchNorwichXL, 24 September 2026, Maddermarket Theatre. £125 general admission, rising to £175 from 25 August. brightonSEO-calibre speakers at a 200-capacity regional theatre for roughly a tenth of the price of a London day.
The room you have to apply to
Masters of Search, Berlin, 22 October 2026, €499. 175 hand-picked seats reviewed within 48 hours, workshops capped at 30, and agencies turning up to prospect are rejected by policy. Built on real experiment data rather than, in their words, LinkedIn theatre.
The most expensive event in SEO
SEOktoberfest, Tyrol, 20–25 September 2026. €5,500–€8,500 all-inclusive for four nights at an Alpine resort with 25 experts and 30 attendees. Six days, off the record, childcare included. Sold out — but worth knowing it exists.
Also worth knowing
- brightonSEO runs a free ticket ballot and gives under-21 students 50% off through its Next Gen scheme. October 2026 prices rise on 27 August, so the £360 Friend ticket becomes £580.
- MeasureCamp London (26 Sept, free) is a pure unconference — the schedule is written by attendees on a whiteboard the morning of. There is no speaker rejection because there is no selection.
- SMX Advanced Europe gives charity, academic and government attendees 50% off, plus €200 off each additional team member. Almost nobody surfaces this.
- SEOkomm and OMX run back-to-back in the same Salzburg venue (26–27 November) — two disciplines in 48 hours on one trip. Tickets are non-refundable but transferable.
- SEO-Day Cologne is held inside a Bundesliga stadium and its €149 livestream ticket is one of the best-value remote options in Europe.
- Baltic–Nordic SEO Summit (3–5 March 2027, Kaunas, €299 incl. VAT) bundles the conference with yoga, Muay Thai, a basketball game and city tours. It is the cheapest tier-1 speaker lineup in Europe by some distance.
European events that are dead or on hold:
• SearchLove London — on hold, not cancelled. Acquired by brightonSEO’s parent from Brainlabs. The site says only “working behind the scenes on what’s next.”
• WTSFest Berlin — permanently cancelled; organisers said it wasn’t financially viable. Attendees redirected to London.
• Digital Elite Camp — defunct; domain redirects to cxl.com. SEO Estonia in Tallinn is the practical replacement.
• Digital Olympus — no 2026 or 2027 edition announced; last confirmed September 2025.
• UnGagged — last verifiable London edition July 2022.
SEO conferences in APAC, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America
Outside the US and Europe, the calendar is smaller but the value is often better. Chiang Mai SEO (9–13 Nov 2026, Thailand, ~800 attendees, over half founders and directors) is the flagship. Ahrefs Evolve Singapore (14–15 April 2027) is the most enterprise-skewed room in Southeast Asia. Sydney SEO Conference (12 March 2027, A$299) donates all profits to a cancer hospital. Search AfriCon runs Africa’s only touring SEO conference at $45–$55 a ticket.
Chiang Mai SEO
9–13 Nov 2026, Thailand, from $897. Five days, ~800 attendees, and 100+ unofficial side events that matter more than the stage. Over half the room are CEOs, founders, directors, owners or partners.
Shenzhen SEO Conference
14–18 Sept 2026, $600–$1,800. The only English-language SEO conference inside mainland China, with Mandarin translation on days 3–4. Functionally a Western/Chinese SEO trade bridge.
Search SEOul
1–4 Sept 2026, $359–$799. The only English-language event built around Naver and Korean SERP realities alongside Google, deliberately capped at ~150–200 people.
Amaze Conference
10–12 Dec 2026, Chandigarh, ₹17,500 early bird (~$200). India’s largest dedicated SEO and AI conference, with a ~70% founder and C-suite room that makes it a deal-making floor.
SEO Summit Brasil
5 Nov 2026, São Paulo, R$897–R$1,297. Two simultaneous stages — one business strategy, one purely technical — and the largest Portuguese-language search audience anywhere.
Search AfriCon
Nairobi 7 Nov 2026 ($45–$55), Lagos 29 May 2027. Africa’s only touring dedicated SEO conference, with a scholarship-donation ticket that funds a local attendee’s seat.
Do not trust these listings:
• brightonSEO Sydney does not exist. brightonSEO runs Brighton and San Diego only.
• “SMX Australia 2026” and “CeBIT Australia 2026” appear on a single source with no corroboration anywhere, including SMX’s own site. Almost certainly fabricated.
• DMSS Bali — site returns nothing, ticket pages 404, last traceable edition 2020.
• Google Search Central Live APAC — the 2026 run is over (Shanghai 15 May, Sydney 22 May). No Tokyo, Seoul, Bangalore, Jakarta, Taipei or Singapore stops exist, and no 2027 dates are listed.
• Affiliate World Dubai — postponed to “Spring 2027”, venue and dates genuinely unknown. Ticket holders received a $1,000 VOD credit.
Virtual and hybrid conferences you can attend from anywhere
Nine events on this calendar are fully virtual, and a further seven sell a livestream ticket at 20–30% of the in-person price. If your budget won’t cover travel, the strongest free options are MarTech (2 Sept), SEO for Paws (23 Sept) and SMX Next (18 Nov). The strongest paid one is NESS (13–15 Oct, $299) if you work in news or editorial SEO.
| Event | Date | Price | Recorded? | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MarTech Fall | 2 Sep 2026 | Free | Yes, on-demand | Martech & ops |

| NESS | 13–15 Oct 2026 | $299 → $399 | Yes | News publishers only |

| Pubcon Pro Virtual | Mid-Jan 2027 | At checkout | Yes + 3 past events | Whole-team viewing |
| WTS Video Hub | Always on | $99 | On-demand | Only route into WTSFest content for men |
| Livestream tickets to in-person events | ||||
| SEO-Day livestream | 19 Nov 2026 | €149 (vs €349) | Yes | German-market SEO |
| Edge of Search stream | 4 Sep 2026 | A$99 (vs A$395) | Yes | AU consultants |
| Content Marketing World digital | 5–6 Oct 2026 | $899 (vs $2,949) | Yes | Enterprise content |
| brightonSEO video bundle | 8–9 Oct 2026 | £150 | Yes, all tracks | Everyone |
| ADworld livestream | 15–16 Oct 2026 | ~€199 | Yes, EN translation | PPC & CRO |
| State of Search virtual | 19–20 Oct 2026 | Not published | All sessions recorded | Local SEO |
| CAMPIXX recordings | 3–4 Jun 2027 | €399 (vs €699) | Yes | German SEO |
| Search AfriCon masterclass | 7 Nov 2026 | $15 | Yes | African SEO |
The honest trade-off. You lose the hallway. Every experienced conference-goer will tell you the corridor conversations beat the sessions, and that’s real. But a £150 brightonSEO video bundle gets you all 190+ talks across every track — something no in-person attendee can physically watch — for less than the train fare. If you’re learning rather than networking, remote wins on content per pound every single time.
Free and under-$300 SEO conferences that are still worth your time
Nine events on this calendar are completely free, and a further eleven cost under $300. Free does not mean weak: Google’s Search Central Live Deep Dive Europe is taught by Google’s own Search team, and brightonSEO San Diego gives away a full single-day pass to the largest US search event.
Completely free
Search Central Live Deep Dive Europe (Barcelona, 30 Sep–2 Oct) · brightonSEO San Diego single day (15–16 Sept) · SEO for Paws (23 Sept) · MeasureCamp London (26 Sept) · MarTech Fall (2 Sept) · SMX Next (18 Nov, historically) · Seamless Middle East expo (Dubai) · Affiliate Summit West & East (for affiliates and media buyers) · SMX Advanced Expo+ pass
Under $300
SEOcamp Remota R$49 (~$9) · Search AfriCon virtual $15 · Search AfriCon Nairobi $45–$55 · Japan SEO Conference ~$92 · WTS Video Hub $99 · Digital PR Summit from £99 · Edge of Search stream A$99 (~$65) · SERP Conf. Sofia from ~€99 · SearchNorwichXL £125 (~$168) · SEO-Day livestream €149 (~$173) · Search Tech Bologna ~€149 · Sydney SEO Conference A$299 (~$216) · Baltic–Nordic SEO Summit €299 · NESS $299 · WTSFest London £299 super early bird
Two of these are charitable. SEO for Paws raises money for Ukrainian animal shelters and consistently books speakers who charge elsewhere. Sydney SEO Conference sends all profits to Chris O’Brien Lifehouse cancer hospital. Search AfriCon sells a $45 “scholarship donation” ticket that funds a local attendee’s seat — you can buy one without attending.
Which conferences do Google, OpenAI and Microsoft staff actually attend?
If you want to hear directly from Google, the only reliable route is Search Central Live — Google’s own event series, which is free. The 2026 European Deep Dive in Barcelona (30 Sept–2 Oct) is taught by Gary Illyes and Cherry Prommawin. Beyond that, Google engineers appear most consistently at SEOktoberfest (off the record, ~55 people), brightonSEO, SMX Advanced and Pubcon.
- Search Central Live is Google’s own product. No third-party event can guarantee Google speakers; Google can. The catch is scarcity — the 2026 APAC run was two stops (Shanghai, Sydney), the 2026 European stops (Milan, Paris) are already past, and no 2027 dates are listed anywhere.
- SEOktoberfest is where the off-record conversations happen. 25 experts, 30 attendees, six days in an Alpine resort. That format exists precisely because search engineers will say things in a 55-person room they won’t say on a stage.
- brightonSEO’s scale makes it the highest-probability bet. With 190+ speakers across ~15 tracks, the odds of at least one search-engine or AI-lab representative on the schedule are very high — and unlike SEOktoberfest, you can just buy a ticket.
- Nobody else publishes this. Across every competing roundup we reviewed, exactly one name-drops a single Google employee. This is a real information gap and we’ll keep tracking it — appearances over the last three years, by event, updated quarterly.
Discount codes, early bird deadlines, refunds and scholarships
The four things every roundup skips and every buyer wants
Early bird pricing typically saves 25–40%, and most cutoffs fall 6–10 weeks before the event. The nearest deadlines right now: brightonSEO Brighton prices rise on 27 August 2026 (£360 → £580), SearchNorwichXL rises on 25 August (£125 → £175), WTSFest Philadelphia rose on 1 September ($499 → $599), and SMX Munich’s super early bird ends 18 September 2026.

Refund, transfer and cancellation policies
This is the single most requested piece of information about a $1,500 purchase, and as far as we can tell no other roundup publishes it at all. Here’s what we could confirm.
| Event | Refundable? | Transferable? | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| SEOkomm / OMX | No | Yes | Stated explicitly on the official ticket page |
| Masters of Search | Application-gated | Ask | 48-hour application review before purchase completes |
| UNBOUND | Check tier | Check tier | VIP already sold out; GA tiers step up over time |
| Ahrefs Evolve | Check | Check | Fixed-price batches rather than dynamic early-bird decay. +7.75% San Diego tax |
| brightonSEO | Check | Check | Prices step up on published dates, so buying early is low-risk regardless |
| Everyone else | Not published. Ask before you buy — and if they won’t answer in writing, that itself is information. | ||
Scholarships, diversity and hardship tickets
- brightonSEO runs a scholarship scheme plus a free public ticket ballot and 50% Next Gen student pricing.
- WTSFest offers scholarship tickets by application at both London and Philadelphia.
- Search AfriCon sells a $45 scholarship-donation ticket that funds a local attendee’s seat.
- SMX Advanced Europe and SMX Munich both give 50% off to charity, academic and government attendees.
- Digital Summit and MAICON run group discounts that effectively function as team scholarships for small agencies.
If you organise an event with a scheme we’ve missed, tell us and we’ll add it. We’d rather this list were complete than proprietary.
How to get your conference budget approved
Budget requests get approved when they name a business outcome, not a learning outcome. “I want to attend BrightonSEO” fails. “Three sessions on the schedule map directly to the technical debt costing us an estimated 18% of crawl budget, and I’ll present findings to the team within a week” gets signed off. Lead with the total cost — including travel — because a finance team that discovers hidden costs later will decline next time.
Copy this, fill in the brackets
- Subject: Training request — [Conference], [dates], total [$X]
- Hi [name],
- I’d like to attend [Conference] in [city] on [dates]. Total cost is [$X]: [$ticket] ticket, [$flights] flights, [$hotel] for [n] nights, [$food] food and transport. Early bird pricing ends [date], after which it rises to [$Y] — so booking before then saves us [$Z].
- Why this one: [3 named sessions and the specific problem each maps to].
- What you get back: a written summary circulated to the team within five working days, a 30-minute internal session on [specific topic], and [named deliverable — e.g. a revised crawl budget plan / a shortlist of vendors evaluated in person].
- Cheaper alternative if needed: the livestream ticket is [$L], which cuts the cost by [X]% but loses the vendor meetings and the hallway conversations.
- Happy to talk it through.
Always include the cheaper alternative. It shows you’ve thought about the money rather than just wanting a trip, and it gives your manager a way to say a partial yes instead of a full no. Seven of the events on this calendar sell a livestream at 20–30% of the in-person price — that’s your fallback line.
First-timer’s playbook
Before
Pick three sessions and two people you want to meet — not more. Message those two on LinkedIn a week out with a specific question. Book the hotel nearest the venue even if it costs more; you’ll use the proximity every day.
During
Skip a session you were going to attend and go to the hallway instead. Take photos of slides with data on them. Write three sentences of notes per talk, not three pages — you’ll never reread pages.
After
Send follow-ups within 48 hours while you’re still a face, not a name. Publish a recap the same week — it’s the cheapest link you’ll earn all year and speakers reliably share write-ups of their own talks.
What other roundups got wrong
Checked against organisers’ own sites on 8 August 2026
We found eleven factual errors repeated across the major SEO conference roundups — wrong cities, rebranded events listed under old names, defunct conferences still presented as upcoming, and at least two events that appear to be entirely fabricated.
| The claim | The reality | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Content Marketing World 2026 is in San Diego | It’s in Denver, 5–7 October | Official |
| INBOUND 2026, Boston | Rebranded to UNBOUND for 2026 | Official |
| brightonSEO has a Sydney edition | It does not. Brighton and San Diego only | Official |
| SearchLove London 2026/2027 | On hold. Acquired by brightonSEO’s parent | Official |
| WTSFest Berlin | Permanently cancelled — not financially viable | Organisers |
| Digital Elite Camp, Tallinn | Defunct. Domain redirects to cxl.com | Redirect |
| TechSEO Boost | No 2026 or 2027 edition | No listing |
| Advanced Search Summit | Defunct. Redirects to digitalmarketers.org; last event 2023 | Redirect |
| Affiliate World Dubai 2026 | Postponed to Spring 2027. Ticket holders got a $1,000 VOD credit | Organisers |
| “SMX Australia 2026” / “CeBIT Australia 2026” | No corroboration anywhere, including SMX’s own site. Likely fabricated | SMX |
| SEO Rockstars runs 1–4 October | 2–4 October, with a VIP day on 1 October | Official |
| Digital Summit Tampa 2027 is 17–18 March | 23–24 March | Official |
We’re not doing this to score points. Roundups get copied, and one wrong city propagates across a dozen sites within a month. If we’ve got something wrong here, tell us and we’ll correct it with a changelog entry.
Frequently asked questions
Are SEO conferences actually worth it in 2027?
For learning alone, usually not — the same talks end up on YouTube, and a £150 video bundle gets you every track. For networking, hiring, vendor evaluation and getting on stage, yes. The four events where the room genuinely is the product are Chiang Mai SEO, SEOktoberfest, Masters of Search and SEO Rockstars, all of which deliberately restrict who gets in. Everything else, judge on total cost against a specific outcome.
What is the biggest SEO conference in the world?
BrightonSEO in Brighton, UK. It draws 4,000+ attendees from 70+ countries with 190+ speakers across roughly 15 parallel tracks, twice a year (April and October). Its San Diego edition is the largest US search event by floor space. For sheer scale of any marketing event, OMR Festival in Hamburg hits ~70,000 and Web Summit Lisbon 70,000+ — but neither is a search conference.
Are there free SEO conferences?
Yes — nine on this calendar. Google’s Search Central Live Deep Dive Europe (Barcelona, 30 Sept–2 Oct 2026) is free and taught by Google’s own Search team. brightonSEO San Diego gives away a full single-day pass. SEO for Paws, MeasureCamp London, MarTech and SMX Next are all free. Affiliate Summit West and East are free for affiliates and media buyers, which most people don’t realise.
Which SEO conference is best for a beginner?
brightonSEO, because its scale means there are always genuine beginner tracks running alongside advanced ones, and the free ticket ballot means you can try it at no cost. Avoid the explicitly experts-only events — SMX Advanced, Tech SEO Connect and Tech SEO Summit all state that they refuse fundamentals content, so you’d be paying to be lost.
How far in advance should I book?
Six to ten weeks before the early bird cutoff, which is usually two to four months before the event. Early bird saves 25–40% at most events and up to 45% at brightonSEO. Flights are the bigger variable — book intercontinental travel three months out and you’ll typically save more than the entire ticket discount.
How much does an SEO conference cost in total?
Median ticket across the 61 events we track is $680. Median total cost for a two-day international trip, including flights, three hotel nights, food and transfers, is around $2,400. Budget 2.4× the ticket for domestic travel and 3.5–4× for intercontinental. A livestream ticket, where offered, typically runs 20–30% of the in-person price with no travel at all.
Can I get a refund if I can’t attend?
Usually not, but you can often transfer. SEOkomm and OMX state explicitly that tickets are non-refundable but transferable, which is the most common arrangement. Most organisers don’t publish a policy at all — ask in writing before you buy, and treat an unanswered question as an answer.
Which conferences give the best backlink opportunities?
brightonSEO, Chiang Mai SEO and Google’s Search Central Live score highest on our Link & PR Opportunity Score, followed by WTSFest, MozCon, Ahrefs Evolve, Spotlight, SEOktoberfest, Tech SEO Connect, SEO Rockstars and Link Building Mastery. The pattern is consistent: large speaker rosters on strong domains, active live-blogging cultures, and open calls for speakers. Speaking beats attending every time.
Are there SEO conferences specifically for link building?
One: Link Building Mastery in Chiang Mai, 14–15 November 2026, $249 — two days, pure link acquisition, no general SEO filler, scheduled immediately after Chiang Mai SEO so you can do both on one flight. For digital PR specifically, Digital PR Summit in Manchester (April–May 2027, from £99) is the UK’s only dedicated event, and brightonSEO runs the deepest digital PR track of any general conference.
What SEO conferences are happening in London?
Four in the next six months: MeasureCamp London (26 September 2026, free), Spotlight by Semrush (13 October 2026, £249–£749), PI LIVE Europe (19–21 October 2026, £495–£1,239) and MozCon London (13 November 2026, £520). In 2027, WTSFest London lands on 19 March at the Barbican (£299 super early bird) and DMWF London on 5–6 May. Brighton itself is an hour from London by train.
Methodology and how we verify
Every date, price and location on this page was checked against the organiser’s own website on 8 August 2026. Where an official source did not publish a figure, we say “not published” rather than estimating. Where a third-party listing conflicts with an official one, we use the official one and flag the conflict. Where an event has a historical pattern but no announced date, we label it Expected and give the month, not a made-up date.
Currency conversions are approximate as at 8 August 2026 (GBP 1 ≈ USD 1.34, EUR 1 ≈ USD 1.16) and will drift. Prices exclude VAT, GST and local taxes unless stated. Cost-of-attendance figures are indicative mid-range estimates — the ratios are the useful part, not the absolute numbers.
The Link & PR Opportunity Score is our own judgement, scored on six equally weighted inputs described in that section. It is subjective and we’ve published the method so you can disagree with it.
Changelog
- 8 Aug 2026 — Initial publication. 61 events, 19 confirmed 2027 dates, 11 corrections to widely-repeated errors.
